Howard Street Children's Centre

Children's Centres provide children up to 5 years old and their families with a range of services and information.

We help your child develop through a range of different play activities and also to provide the opportunity for you to attend groups and courses at the centre. We are linked to other local services such as the Family Information Service, NHS and Job Centre Plus and you can access help from professionals including midwives, health visitors and the family learning team.

Monday

Play and learn 10am – 12pm
6th March – Spring

13th March – The hungry caterpillar
20th March – The colour yellow
27th March – Incy wincy spider

Suitable for children aged 0-5 years.

Lets talk baby 11am – 12pm

The course aims to give ideas and tips to encourage early communication skills, which will provide a good start towards learning to talk. Suitable for babies aged 3-12 months.

Bumb to baby 1.30pm – 2.30pm

A 3 week programme for mums and dads to be, focusing on bonding, skin to skin, safe sleep and safety within the home.

Stories and crafts 1pm – 2pm

A fun session for children to discover their love for books. Suitable for children aged 0-5 years.

 

Tuesday

Midwife Clinic 9am – 4pm

Song and Rhyme Time 10.30am – 11.30am

An active session which supports development of communication using songs, rhymes incorporating simple signs. Suitable for children aged 0-5 years.

Baby messy play 1pm – 2.30pm

A session in which your child can explore different textures. Food will be used so please speak to a member of staff if your child has any allergies. Suitable for children aged 0-12 months.

Family journey

Fussy eaters, weaning, behaviour management and toilet training course.

Wednesday

Introduction to children centre welcome session 1pm (15th March)

Monthly drop in sessions for those who are new to the area or to the Children Centre. Pop along to find out more about what your Children Centres can offer you and your family with children aged 0-5 years.

Let’s talk parents 10.30am – 12.30pm

An opportunity for parents to gain an understanding of how to promote communication language skills to help children become school ready. Crèche available. Contact us to book onto the session.

Messy Play 10.30am - 12pm

It fosters curiosity, imagination and exploration. Encourages communication and language development. Practices good communication and language development. Practices good concentration and nurtures future skills. Promotes physical development. Supports the ability to play independently. Suitable for over 1 years old.

Soothing senses 10.30am – 11.30am

A weekly play and learn session offering a calm, soothing low stimulation environment. Parents can share experiences and give each other help and advice. Suitable for children with sensory needs.

 

Friday 

Play and Learn 10.30am - 11am

A fun and exciting session for children to explore all areas of play and learning opportunities in our early years environment.

Suitable for children aged 0 – 5 years.

Boogie Beats 11am – 11.30pm

Drop in session includes music and movement classes are energetic and fun, combining music and dance with carefully structured learning. These sessions help children to develop confidence, coordination and social skills whilst they learn to express themselves in a friendly and relaxed environment. Suitable for children aged 0–5 years.
